On April 9, 2023, 30-year-old Houston resident Javoris Potier was fatally shot during a zydeco dance event at Laday Arena in Cheek, Texas. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. during "The I-10 Super Ride," a two-day trail ride and concert that attracted hundreds of attendees. Potier was attempting to intervene in a physical altercation among a group of women when he was shot in the abdomen.
