Anthony Wilson, a 37-year-old man from Beaumont, Texas, was fatally shot on April 11, 2019. Beaumont Police responded to a call about a shooting in the 6800 block of Madrid Drive shortly after 10 p.m. When they arrived, they found Wilson lying near a roadway, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe that Wilson confronted three suspects who had committed several auto burglaries in the Dowlen West neighborhood, including at Wilson's residence.
During the confrontation, Wilson was shot by the suspects, and his truck was stolen and later found abandoned.
Several arrests were made in connection with Wilson's murder. Jamirious Jantrel Gardner, who was 17 at the time, was arrested and charged with first-degree felony murder and six counts of burglary of a habitation. Gardner later pleaded guilty to these charges and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Bernard Bell, who was believed to have disposed of or hidden the gun used in the shooting, was sentenced to almost six years in prison. Bryce Bell, who was 15 at the time of the murder, was certified as an adult and sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty. James Cook, another suspect, has yet to stand trial.
