On March 14, 2024, Dallas Police responded to a shooting call in the 400 block of Bluewood Drive. Upon arrival, officers found 56-year-old Timothy Lynn Gantt with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Despite medical efforts, Gantt succumbed to his injuries on March 18, 2024. The case was subsequently transferred to the Homicide Unit for further investigation.
Through their investigation, detectives identified 59-year-old Benjamin Edwards as the suspect in Gantt's death. At the time of identification, Edwards was already incarcerated in the Dallas County Jail on an unrelated charge. He has since been charged with murder in connection to Gantt's death.

Gantt was remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, son, and friend. He was an active member of the Temple of Deliverance Church, serving in various capacities, including overseeing security. Additionally, he was a member of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Texas and Jurisdiction, F. & A. M. New Day Lodge #655. He had a strong passion for cooking and was known for his generous spirit.
