On the evening of April 17, 2024, at approximately 9:01 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to reports of a shooting at 1800 East 51st Street, near the basketball courts of Bartholomew District Park in East Austin. Upon arrival, they discovered 33-year-old Tayjay Stephens inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Emergency medical services transported Stephens to a local hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased at 9:32 p. ...
