On a tragic evening in Meridian, Idaho, 41-year-old Sarah Walmsley, a White female from Boise, was killed on December 3, 2023. Her life was cut short by a gunshot wound to the head, and her death was officially ruled a homicide. Friends and co-workers remembered her as a caring and kind person with a bubbly personality that had a significant impact on everyone she met.
She was a mother, daughter, and sister, and her sudden death left her family heartbroken.
The devastating events unfolded on a Sunday evening when police responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence on North Cougar Way at approximately 7:10 p.m. The caller, a friend of one of the victims, expressed concern that someone might have been shot. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered a grim scene inside the home. Two women, Sarah Walmsley and 33-year-old Emily Works of Meridian, were found deceased in different locations within the house, both victims of fatal gunshot wounds. An 11-year-old child who was present at the home during the shootings was found physically unharmed at a different residence after fleeing the scene.
The suspect was quickly identified by authorities as 31-year-old Clint Powers of Meridian. It was reported that Powers was in a relationship with one of the victims. Following the discovery of the two women, a search for Powers ensued. His escape attempt involved a carjacking at gunpoint about half a mile from the crime scene. A deputy from the Ada County Sheriff's Office located the stolen vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. Powers fled on foot, firing several shots at the pursuing deputy, who was not injured. Law enforcement established a perimeter and eventually located Powers, who then took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound before he could be arrested. The deaths of Sarah Walmsley and Emily Works were described by the Meridian Police Chief as "an absolutely senseless act of violence."
