On a tragic Saturday night in Meridian, Idaho, the life of 32-year-old Caucasian female Kimberly Smith came to a violent end. On September 20, 2014, police responded to reports of shots fired at her home on North Crestmont Drive around 11:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a grim scene in the garage of the residence. Kimberly and her 24-year-old husband, Kevin Smith, were both found deceased from gunshot wounds.
The subsequent investigation by the Ada County Coroner's Office brought
clarity to the events of that evening. Autopsies confirmed that Kimberly Smith died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest, and her death was ruled a homicide. Her husband, Kevin Smith, died from a single gunshot wound to the head, and his death was ruled a suicide. Investigators concluded that Kevin Smith shot his wife before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide, leaving no outstanding suspects and therefore no arrests to be made.
The tragedy left five children without their mother. In the aftermath, it was revealed that Kimberly had reached out for help shortly before her death, sending a text message to the father of three of her children, asking him and his wife to come and pick her up. She didn't express fear in the message, but indicated a desire to leave the house. By the time they arrived, however, it was too late. It was also reported that Kimberly had been a victim of domestic violence in her relationship with Kevin, though she had been trying to make things work.
