On July 4, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Port Arthur Police responded to a reported shooting at a garage apartment in the 3400 block of 6th Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered two deceased individuals: 22-year-old Alfred Glenn Scott Jr. of Port Arthur and 24-year-old Corneileous Jarod Jones of Cypress. Both men had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. One body was found at the base of the stairs leading to the apartment, and the other inside the residence.
The initial 911 call was made by a female resident of the garage apartment, who reported that someone had forcibly entered her home by kicking in the front door. She informed police that she was hiding in the bathroom during the intrusion. Authorities have indicated that neither Scott nor Jones resided at the location, suggesting they may have been recent acquaintances. Investigators are exploring the possibility that the incident resulted from a robbery or a transaction that escalated violently.
In the aftermath of the shootings, Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso stated that several persons of interest had been identified, including the tenant of the apartment. However, as of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Authorities have urged residents in the vicinity to review their security camera footage from midnight to 2 a.m. on the night of the incident for any suspicious activity or vehicles that could aid the investigation.
