On July 9, 2024, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Dallas police responded to reports of gunfire in the 11500 block of Plano Road. Upon arrival, they discovered 41-year-old Crystal Daniels lying in a strip mall parking lot, fatally shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Surveillance footage from a nearby business captured a vehicle in the vicinity around the time of the incident. Investigators traced the car to 32-year-old Yons Alshabi. Initially, Alshabi reported his vehicle as stolen, ...
