On July 9, 2024, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Dallas police responded to reports of gunfire in the 11500 block of Plano Road. Upon arrival, they discovered 41-year-old Crystal Daniels lying in a strip mall parking lot, fatally shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Surveillance footage from a nearby business captured a vehicle in the vicinity around the time of the incident. Investigators traced the car to 32-year-old Yons Alshabi. Initially, Alshabi reported his vehicle as stolen, but during subsequent questioning, he admitted to picking up Daniels with the intention of paying her $70 for sexual services at a nearby motel. He recounted that he became apprehensive about a truck he believed was following them, leading him to give Daniels $10 and ask her to exit the vehicle. When she refused, a struggle ensued, during which Alshabi claimed the gun discharged accidentally. He then removed Daniels' body from his car and left her in the parking lot.

Upon discovering Daniels' body, investigators noted a $10 bill clutched in her hand. Alshabi was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. He is currently held on a $1 million bond.
