On the evening of October 1, 2024, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Houston Police Department officers responded to a report of a person down at an apartment complex located at 3030 Elmside Drive in Houston, Texas. Upon arrival, they discovered 47-year-old Alleydis Fernandez-Aguirre unresponsive in the parking lot, having suffered at least one gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced Fernandez-Aguirre deceased at the scene.
Initially, there was no known suspect or description available.
However, through further investigation, detectives identified 37-year-old Dannier Aguero-Benitez as the suspect in this case. On October 7, 2024, the Harris County District Attorney's Office filed a murder charge against Aguero-Benitez in the 248th State District Court. At the time of the charge, Aguero-Benitez was not in custody and remained at large.
The Houston Police Department released a booking photo of Aguero-Benitez from February 2024 to assist in locating him. Authorities urged anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the HPD Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers anonymously. As of the latest available information, Aguero-Benitez had not been apprehended, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting was ongoing.
