On October 26, 2024, 22-year-old Alexis Fernando Estrada Zambrano was fatally shot in Old East Dallas, Texas. Originally from Honduras, Zambrano was found deceased on Dilido Road near John West Road around 4:30 a.m., having suffered a gunshot wound to the face. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations revealed that Zambrano had been lured to the location under the pretense of providing a ride to 18-year-old Jason Steven.
During the journey, the vehicle experienced a flat tire, prompting Zambrano to stop and attempt repairs. At this juncture, a 16-year-old male approached, and after a brief altercation, shot Zambrano. Surveillance footage captured the 16-year-old fleeing the scene alongside Steven. Two other passengers in the vehicle also fled in different directions.
Authorities arrested the 16-year-old suspect on November 7, 2024, followed by the apprehension of Jason Steven on November 8. Both have been charged with murder. A 15-year-old suspect was also detained in connection with the case; however, due to their age, further details have not been disclosed. The investigation suggests that Steven orchestrated the plan to murder Zambrano due to prior conflicts, enlisting the juveniles to assist in the act. Notably, Steven is reported to be in the country illegally and is currently held in the Dallas County jail on an immigration hold.
The tragic death of Alexis Zambrano has highlighted concerns regarding violent crime in Dallas, particularly involving youth offenders. As the investigation continues, the community remains vigilant, seeking justice for Zambrano and striving for measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
