On June 19, 2023, at approximately 6 a.m., 54-year-old Nathaniel Ogbolu was working as a cashier at a 7-Eleven store on North Hampton Road in Dallas, Texas. An unidentified male suspect entered the store, brandished a firearm, and demanded money from the cash register. Before Ogbolu could comply, the assailant shot him multiple times. The suspect also fired at a witness but missed, then fled the scene on foot. Ogbolu was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

In the aftermath of the incident, the Dallas Police Department released surveillance footage showing the suspect wearing a white hoodie with a black stripe, dark pants, black and white shoes, and a mask. Despite these efforts, the assailant remained unidentified for several months.

Over the course of 16 months, five individuals came forward, identifying 38-year-old Demarcus Miller as the perpetrator. In July 2023, Miller was arrested on an unrelated family assault charge. While in custody, detectives questioned him about Ogbolu's murder, but he denied involvement and was released after the assault charge was dropped. During this time, police seized Miller's cell phone, which contained photos of him wearing a black ski mask and gray hoodie shortly after the offense.

In October 2024, after a fifth witness identified Miller as the suspect, the Dallas Police Department, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Task Force, arrested him on charges of capital murder. Miller is currently held in the Dallas County jail on a $2.5 million bond.
