On October 29, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Abilene police responded to a report of an injured individual near the intersection of Highway 277 and South Clack Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 47-year-old David Anthony Vasquez lying unresponsive in a culvert. Medical personnel determined that Vasquez had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

Later that day, authorities arrested 25-year-old Jaylen Clint Shafer in connection with Vasquez's death. Shafer, whose address was listed ...
