Known as a contractor who sold materials for windows and gates, Kao had immigrated to the United States from Taiwan approximately two decades earlier with his older brother. He was unmarried and had no children, leaving behind his 75-year-old brother as his closest surviving relative.
The incident occurred during a Lunar New Year celebration at the dance studio, a popular venue among older Asian Americans.
