On January 21, 2023, a tragic mass shooting occurred at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park, California, resulting in the deaths of eleven individuals, including 64-year-old Wen-Tau Yu. The incident took place around 10:22 p.m. during a Lunar New Year celebration, a time meant for joy and community gathering. The assailant, identified as 72-year-old Huu Can Tran, entered the dance studio and opened fire, causing immediate chaos and devastation.
