On January 21, 2023, 17-year-old Khalil Marwan Saleem II was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting at Silverado Park in Long Beach, California. Khalil, a student at Lakewood High School and a member of the football team, was playing basketball at the park when an SUV drove by and opened fire. An unidentified individual at the basketball courts returned fire at the vehicle, which fled the scene before police arrived.
