On the evening of September 15, 2023, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a shooting occurred near the intersection of Manchester Avenue and Broadway in South Los Angeles. Responding officers from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) found 38-year-old Chauncy Johnson with a fatal gunshot wound to the head; he was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman in her 30s suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Witnesses reported seeing two male suspects wearing black hooded sweatshirts fleeing the area northbound through an alley adjacent to Broadway. Despite an immediate search, the suspects were not apprehended. The LAPD initiated a homicide investigation, urging anyone with information to come forward.
As of December 26, 2024, there have been no public reports of arrests or identification of suspects in connection with the murder of Chauncy Johnson.
