Marvin Pentz Gaye, the legendary Motown singer, tragically died on April 1, 1984, at the age of 44 in Los Angeles, California. His death was the result of a violent altercation with his father, Marvin Gay Sr., at their family home in the Western Heights neighborhood. The incident occurred following a heated argument between Marvin Gaye and his parents. In an attempt to intervene in the dispute, Gaye was shot twice by his father with a .38 Special revolver.
The first shot, which proved to be fatal, struck Gaye in the heart, and the second shot was fired at close range. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the California Hospital Medical Center.
