On January 11, 2024, at approximately 7:58 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting near the Rose Hill Recreation Center, at the intersection of Beryl Street and Mercury Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 25-year-old Luis Lopez-Flores, who had sustained gunshot wounds before crashing the vehicle he was driving. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:45 p.m.
The incident was classified as a gang-related shooting.
An 18-year-old man was also found at the scene with gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital in stable condition. However, he did not cooperate with the police investigation.
As of now, there have been no arrests made in connection with the death of Luis Lopez-Flores. The Los Angeles Police Department continues to investigate the case, seeking any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspect or suspects involved.
