On January 11, 2024, at approximately 7:58 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting near the Rose Hill Recreation Center, at the intersection of Beryl Street and Mercury Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 25-year-old Luis Lopez-Flores, who had sustained gunshot wounds before crashing the vehicle he was driving. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:45 p.m.
