On April 6, 2024, at approximately 12:42 a.m., Stockton police responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision at the intersection of Wood Duck Circle and Quail Lakes Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle atop a median with 21-year-old Boivae Martinez Jr. in the driver's seat, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Martinez had been shot while driving, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the median. Initially, there were no known motives or suspect descriptions. However, as the investigation progressed, authorities identified and apprehended three suspects in connection with the homicide.
On May 6, 2024, 18-year-old Jadari Benson was arrested during a traffic stop conducted by San Joaquin County Sheriff's deputies. Subsequently, on May 24, 2024, 18-year-old Rafael Galvan was detained by the Long Beach Police Department. The third suspect, 19-year-old Sir James Roots, was apprehended on June 26, 2024, after committing two robberies; a warrant had previously been issued for his arrest in connection with Martinez's death. All three suspects were booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on charges related to the homicide.
The arrests of Benson, Galvan, and Roots marked significant developments in the case, though the investigation remained ongoing. Authorities continued to seek information to fully understand the circumstances surrounding Martinez's death.
