Dustin Burt, a 38-year-old resident of Stockton, California, tragically lost his life on January 11, 2020. The incident occurred late on a Saturday night near the intersection of Eighth and Bieghle streets. Deputies from the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a disturbance and gunshots around 9:20 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Burt unresponsive and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Burt had been shot multiple times outside the M&M Market, a neighborhood store where he was known to frequent.
The suspect in the case, Noe Serrano, 29, was apprehended following a dramatic police chase. Stockton police officers spotted a vehicle matching the description provided by witnesses and attempted to pull it over. Serrano, however, led the officers on a pursuit that ended in a crash near River Drive and Ryde Avenue. After being medically cleared, Serrano was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on multiple felony charges, including homicide. Witnesses reported that Burt had collapsed in front of the market's entrance after being shot approximately seven times in the parking lot.
Further investigation into the backgrounds of both Burt and Serrano revealed a history of violent crimes. Burt had recently been released from state prison, although the specifics of his incarceration were not disclosed. Serrano, on the other hand, faced over a dozen felony charges, including murder and numerous weapon offenses. He was held without bail and scheduled for arraignment in Superior Court in Stockton.

Despite his troubled past, Burt was remembered by those who knew him as a friendly and well-liked individual.
