On July 7, 2024, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Stockton police responded to a shooting near North Commerce and West Vine streets. Upon arrival, officers discovered 37-year-old Stockton resident Alverse Taylor suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Earlier that same day, a separate incident occurred near Gordon Verner Circle, involving a shootout among several individuals.
Multiple vehicles and homes were struck by gunfire, though no injuries were reported. Officers recovered numerous shell casings from various firearms at the scene. Investigators identified a blue Volkswagen Atlas, captured on surveillance footage, as a vehicle of interest departing the area.
Authorities believe there may be a connection between the shootout near Gordon Verner Circle and the fatal shooting of Taylor, despite the locations being approximately six miles apart. The exact nature of this connection remains under investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The Stockton Police Department continues to seek information from the public to aid in solving these cases.
In addition to the events surrounding his death, records indicate that Taylor had a history of legal issues. Notably, in 2017, he was sentenced in Washoe County, Nevada, to up to 19 years in prison for trafficking controlled substances, with a minimum of over five and a half years to be served before eligibility for parole. He was identified as a documented member of the Northside Gangster Crips and had multiple prior felony convictions.
