On May 21, 2024, Senior Deputy Benjamin Alan Michael Harmonson, aged 36, was found deceased near a vehicle on Seventh Standard Road, close to Shafter, California. The Kern County Coroner's Office determined that Harmonson died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, ruling his death a suicide.
Harmonson had a distinguished 16-year career with the Kern County Sheriff's Office (KCSO). He began as a deputy sheriff trainee on July 19, 2008, and was promoted to full deputy on January 17, 2008.
