On August 26, 2024, at approximately 3:42 p.m., Santa Ana Police officers responded to reports of a shooting near 800 S. Townsend Street, just east of Monte Vista Elementary School. Upon arrival, they discovered 32-year-old Santa Ana resident, Erick Alegria, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention from the Orange County Fire Authority, Alegria was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
