On New Year's Day 2023, a celebration at the Monarch Apartments in Johnson City, Tennessee, turned tragic, ending the life of 19-year-old Jashon Yates. Yates, a resident of nearby Kingsport, was attending a party in the early morning hours when gunfire erupted within the apartment complex, which is located across the street from East Tennessee State University.
In the ensuing chaos, as partygoers fled the scene, Yates was fatally wounded.
Responding to the incident, Johnson City police discovered a chaotic scene and found Jashon Yates deceased inside one of the apartments. The investigation that followed involved numerous interviews with individuals who were present at the party. In connection with the shooting, police arrested Davo Jennings Warl, then 22 years old, on multiple counts of reckless endangerment. However, he was not charged with Jashon Yates's murder, and police have indicated that they are still working to identify the individual responsible for firing the fatal shot.
