On a summer day in 2018, the life of 38-year-old Christopher Scott Connelly of Telford, Tennessee, was tragically cut short. On June 2nd, his partially clothed body was discovered on the side of Dry Creek Road in Johnson City by a woman out walking her dog. An investigation into his death quickly determined that Connelly, a white male, had been fatally shot in the back of the head, a detail that pointed to a deliberate and violent end to an altercation that had preceded the discovery.
The investigation soon focused on 38-year-old Aaron Christopher Story. During questioning by investigators, Story admitted to the murder. The motive for this senseless act of violence was revealed to be a dispute over a mere $150 drug debt. This admission led to Story being charged with first-degree murder, and he was subsequently held on a $100,000 bond as the legal process began to unfold.
As the case progressed through the justice system, authorities continued to explore the possibility of other individuals being involved in the crime. In May of 2021, Aaron Christopher Story ultimately pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree murder. This plea resulted in a 20-year prison sentence, bringing a legal conclusion to the case. While the conviction provided a measure of justice, it did little to erase the profound loss felt by Connelly's family and friends.
