On February 13, 2016, Jose Mijares, a 45-year-old Hispanic man from Johnson City, TN, was fatally shot. The incident occurred when Mijares was driving with his 14-year-old son. As they approached a stop sign, a green truck driven by Michael Young, Mijares' neighbor, cut them off. Mijares got out of his vehicle to confront Young, and during the altercation, Young shot Mijares in the chest.
