In the early morning hours of January 28, 2023, a violent encounter at a Dodge's convenience store on Fort Campbell Boulevard in Clarksville, Tennessee, claimed the life of 29-year-old Jarlen Corbin. Responding to a call shortly before 5 a.m., Clarksville Police officers discovered Corbin at the scene with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was transported to Tennova Healthcare, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Jarlen Raymont Corbin, a Black male born on March 18, 1993, was a father and an entrepreneur who had attended Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to the identification of suspects. Two other men, 28-year-old Maleike Hamlin and 21-year-old Otis Barnes, both from Clarksville, also sustained gunshot wounds during the incident and had arrived at Tennova Healthcare for treatment before being transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Following their release from the hospital, Hamlin and Barnes were taken into custody and charged with criminal homicide in connection with Corbin's death.
As the investigation by the Clarksville Police Department's Special Operations Homicide Unit continued, a third individual was implicated in the fatal shooting. On December 23, 2023, Santanna McFarlan, born July 5, 2002, was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail, also facing charges related to the homicide of Jarlen Corbin. The case against the three suspects is pending prosecution.
