In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 22-year-old Courtney Antwon Brown Jr. was tragically cut short. On March 26, 2023, the young Black / African American man was discovered unresponsive inside a Jeep Grand Cherokee near the intersection of Interstate 40 and Chelsea Avenue. Memphis Police Department officers arrived at the scene around 4:28 a.m.
to find that Brown had sustained gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that Brown's vehicle was parked near South Main Street and Pontotoc Avenue shortly before the incident. Surveillance footage showed that at approximately 4:13 a.m., he drove away from this location, followed by multiple other vehicles. The circumstances that led to the fatal shooting remain unclear.
