In the summer of 2012, the life of 17-year-old Jemarcius White, a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short by an act of violence in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. On the evening of July 8th, in the Cooper-Young neighborhood, a vehicle drove by a residence on the 2000 block of Felix Avenue and an occupant opened fire.
Jemarcius was struck by multiple gunshots and, despite the arrival of emergency responders, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Another individual, a woman, was also wounded in the shooting but her injuries were not life-threatening. The incident was one of several violent acts that plagued the area during that time, leaving the community unsettled.
In the aftermath of the shooting, investigators from the Memphis Police Department began their search for those responsible. They were able to identify a suspect vehicle, a white 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, and released images to the public in the hopes of generating leads. However, despite these efforts, the individual or individuals who carried out the fatal shooting have never been identified. No arrests have been made in the case, and it remains an unsolved homicide. The family of Jemarcius White continues to await justice as the search for answers continues.
