On May 4, 2023, in Surgoinsville, Tennessee, 56-year-old Billy Ray Jones was found deceased from a single gunshot wound inside a camper located on the property at 2520 Stanley Valley Road. The Hawkins County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting complaint at approximately 4 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies encountered 25-year-old Cody Jackson, who resided at the address. Jackson informed the deputies that he had shot his uncle, Billy Ray Jones.
