In the early morning hours of May 6, 2023, the life of 23-year-old Joshua Ray Delgado was tragically cut short in his lifelong hometown of Johnson City, Tennessee. Delgado, a former student of Science Hill High School and an employee at American Home Supply, was found deceased behind a residence on Washington Avenue. An investigation revealed that he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The Johnson City Police Department determined that the shooting occurred sometime between 3:30 and
4:30 a.m. Authorities believe that although multiple rounds were fired from a single weapon, only one individual was the shooter. Despite the violence that erupted in the Carver apartment complex area, no calls were made to 911 at the time of the shooting. It wasn't until several hours later that a passerby discovered Delgado's body and alerted the police.
The investigation into Joshua Ray Delgado's death led to an arrest four days later. On May 10, 2023, police took 20-year-old Moziah McKinney into custody and charged him with second-degree murder in connection with Delgado's death. McKinney was subsequently transported to the Washington County Detention Center. At the time of his arrest for the murder charge, he was also being held on two failure to appear charges from Washington County Criminal Court. While an arrest has been made, authorities have stated that the investigation remains ongoing and that further charges are anticipated.
Joshua was remembered by loved ones as someone who enjoyed listening to music and spending time with his brothers. His passing was mourned by his father, four sisters, a brother, and a daughter, as well as many other family members and friends. His family held a gathering for friends and family to share memories and stories in his honor.
