On July 1, 2023, 31-year-old Fredy Adelso Batz Che was fatally shot while fishing with family and friends near the Old Hickory Lake beach access on Burnett Road in Nashville, Tennessee. Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot, after which Batz Che was found with a gunshot wound to the back of his neck. He was transported to Skyline Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
In the aftermath of the incident, Metro Nashville Police Department's Homicide Unit launched an investigation to identify the perpetrator. Detectives sought to question the driver of a silver Hyundai Sonata seen in the immediate area at the time of the shooting, believing this individual might have witnessed the event or possessed information pertinent to the case.
Despite these efforts, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been reported in connection with Batz Che's death. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
Batz Che, originally from Alta Verapaz Coban, Guatemala, was a self-employed construction worker residing in Nashville with his brother. He is survived by his mother, Vicenta Che, and his brother, Raymundo Batz Che. Following a visitation at Ellis Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Nashville, arrangements were made to transport his body back to Guatemala for final services and burial.
