In Knoxville, Tennessee, on February 5, 2024, the life of 29-year-old Aaron Russell was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting. The incident unfolded at a school bus transportation yard on Middlebrook Pike where Russell was the owner.
The man responsible for his death was identified as Daniel Arwood, a 38-year-old former employee who had recently been terminated by Russell. Arwood, who had been living on the property, was instructed to vacate the premises.
On that Monday, when Russell arrived at the bus lot, he was confronted by Arwood. Witnesses reported hearing Russell shout 'No' just before Arwood shot him with a shotgun. As Russell attempted to escape, he was shot a second time.
Following the shooting, Arwood fled the scene in a vehicle, leading to a police pursuit. He eventually abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot into nearby woods but was apprehended by law enforcement. Arwood was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, evading arrest, and driving with a suspended license.
During a four-day trial, evidence was presented, and testimony was heard from witnesses. After the trial, a jury found Daniel Arwood guilty of the first-degree murder of Aaron Russell. He was sentenced to life in prison and will be required to serve a minimum of 51 years before becoming eligible for parole. Arwood was also convicted on the charges of evading arrest and driving with a suspended license.
