In the late afternoon of Thursday, March 28, 2024, emergency services in Greene County, Tennessee, received a distressing 911 call reporting a possible shooting at a residence in the 5600 block of Old Stage Road in Chuckey. Deputies from the Greene County Sheriff's Department were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, they discovered 73-year-old Clarence “Lynn” Devoti inside the home, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
Officers attempted to administer CPR until emergency medical services arrived, but despite their efforts, Mr. Devoti was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators from the Greene County Sheriff's Department, with assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, began processing the scene and interviewing potential witnesses. Their investigation quickly led them to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. William “Justin” Harrison, a resident of Afton, was taken into custody in connection with Mr. Devoti's death.
Following his arrest, Harrison was charged with second-degree murder. He was subsequently booked into the Greene County Detention Center, with his bond set at $600,000. His arraignment was scheduled for the following Monday, April 1, 2024, in the Greene County General Sessions Court. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing. Mr. Devoti was a retired floor specialist and was remembered by his family as a man who never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
