In the late hours of a summer night in Nashville, Tennessee, a young man's life was tragically cut short in what police have described as a calculated and brutal setup. Xavier J. Johnson, a 20-year-old from Clarksville, was fatally shot on August 19, 2024, behind a home on Maplecrest Drive in the Donelson area. The residence was being used partially as a short-term rental but was not occupied at the time of the incident.
Investigators determined that Johnson had been communicating with a
20-year-old woman, Markaisha Keal, on Instagram before arranging to meet her. Just before 1 a.m., Johnson arrived at the Maplecrest Drive property with Keal. She then led him to the rear of the house, where an accomplice, 18-year-old Jeremiah Henderson, was allegedly lying in wait. Henderson is accused of running up to Johnson and shooting him multiple times. After Johnson was shot, both Keal and Henderson allegedly went through his pockets and robbed him of his belongings.
Following the deadly encounter, Keal and Henderson fled the scene. The day after the murder, they boarded a Greyhound bus to Biloxi, Mississippi, in an attempt to evade law enforcement. For nearly three months, the case was under investigation until a breakthrough occurred on November 11, 2024. Clarksville Police, responding to a domestic violence call, came into contact with Keal and Henderson. It was discovered that both had outstanding criminal homicide warrants that had been issued on October 31, 2024, and entered into a national database.
Both Markaisha Keal and Jeremiah Henderson were arrested in connection with Xavier Johnson's murder. Keal was returned to Nashville to face charges. Henderson remained in custody in Montgomery County to resolve unrelated legal issues before he could be transferred to Nashville. The arrests brought a sense of relief to Johnson's family, who described him as having a big heart and a memorable smile, and expressed their gratitude that the individuals allegedly responsible were in custody, bringing them one step closer to justice.
