In the early morning hours of January 17, 2023, Siboram 'Pat' Patro, a 67-year-old Indian-American male, was working as a clerk at an Exxon gas station in the Tacony section of Philadelphia. Known as a kindhearted and friendly person, Patro was a beloved figure to his customers. He was a devoted fan of Philadelphia sports, often seen wearing an Eagles hat or a 2008 Phillies World Series sweater. Having immigrated to the United States from India in 1988, he had spent years working various jobs to provide for his family.
Tragically, at approximately 4:00 AM, three masked men entered the gas station's mini-mart. Surveillance footage captured two of the men lingering in the store before the third entered and approached the counter. This third individual fired a shot at Patro, who was behind a protective barrier. The three men then forced their way into the secured office area, where they shot Patro in the back before stealing the cash register and fleeing the scene. Responding medics pronounced Siboram Patro dead at the scene shortly after.
The senseless murder prompted an investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department. Just over a week later, on January 25, 2023, authorities announced the arrests of three suspects in connection with the case. The individuals taken into custody were identified as Chiheam Jones, 38, of Philadelphia; Robert Miller-Crafter, 25, of Chester; and Keyon Vincent, 21, of Philadelphia. All three men were charged with murder, robbery, criminal conspiracy, and other related offenses. The community mourned the loss of Patro, remembering him as a wonderful person who was well-liked by those who knew him. A candlelight vigil was held in his memory, attended by family, friends, and community members.
