In the Tacony neighborhood of Philadelphia, a burst of gunfire shattered the night on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, leaving a young man's life cut tragically short. Hashim Gardner, a 19-year-old Black male, was riding an electric scooter along the 4600 block of Levick Street when he was ambushed in a drive-by shooting. The attack occurred at approximately 10:19 p.m., a time when the city's streets still hummed with the remnants of the day.

Struck multiple times, with devastating injuries to his head and chest, Gardner was found lying in the street by responding Philadelphia Police officers. In a desperate attempt to save his life, the officers rushed him to Temple University Hospital in their patrol vehicle. Despite their efforts and the work of medical staff, Hashim Gardner succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after arriving, around 10:41 p.m.

Investigators from the Homicide Detective Division descended upon the scene, which they believe was not a random act of violence. The evidence suggests that Gardner, who lived just a few blocks away on Jackson Street, was the intended target of his assailants. At the scene, police recovered two firearms and eleven 9mm shell casings, remnants of the violent encounter that ended a life. As of now, the case remains an unsolved murder. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The Philadelphia Police Department continues its investigation, urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring closure to the family of Hashim Gardner.
