On March 18, 2023, 21-year-old Naim Jahace Bayete of Erie, Pennsylvania, was fatally shot in the 800 block of East 21st Street. The incident occurred around 3:20 a.m., following a brief confrontation between Bayete and the suspect, 29-year-old Torrance A. Norris, at the Speed Check gas station located at East 18th and Parade streets. Surveillance footage captured the exchange of words between the two men shortly before the shooting.
