In the aftermath of the tragic event, an investigation was launched, leading to the arrest of Darion Eady. He was subsequently tried and convicted for the murder of Elijah Jackson, receiving a sentence of 23 to 47 years in prison. However, the legal saga was far from over. In a significant development, a three-judge Superior Court panel unanimously overturned Eady's murder conviction in May 2018. The court ruled that there was insufficient evidence to sustain the charges of murder, reckless endangerment, and weapons possession. A conviction on a firearms violation was, however, upheld.
