On April 21, 2023, at approximately 11:25 p.m., 27-year-old George Smith was fatally shot while standing on the 2400 block of North 17th Street in North Philadelphia. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Temple University Hospital by private vehicle, where he was pronounced dead at 11:44 p.m.

Reports indicate that Smith was shot at least eight times. The crime scene was marked by numerous shell casings, underscoring the violent nature of the attack.
