In the Oxford Circle neighborhood of Philadelphia, a 55-year-old man named Thomas Hennessey, who used a wheelchair, was found dead in his home on the 4700 block of Alcott Street in what was later determined to be a homicide. On the evening of October 18, 2022, police responded to 911 calls about a disturbance and screaming. Officers arrived to find the door to Hennessey's residence open and discovered him unresponsive on the floor with blood around his head. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Initially, investigators considered the possibility that Hennessey had fallen out of his wheelchair and sustained a fatal head injury. However, the city's medical examiner later determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. This finding shifted the focus of the investigation to a homicide, with detectives from the Homicide Detectives Division taking over the case.
Despite the ongoing investigation, no weapon was recovered from the scene, and police did not immediately identify a motive or any suspects. Over two years later, Hennessey's family was still seeking answers and justice. His niece described him as a caring father figure and the rock of their family. In late 2024, she made a public plea for any information that could lead to the arrest of his killer, with the city offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. The case remains unsolved.
