On the evening of September 10, 2015, the life of 32-year-old Bryan Ahmaad Edwards, an African American male, was cut short in a residence in the 1000 block of G Avenue NW in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Emergency responders found him with a gunshot wound and transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities investigating the shooting indicated that the incident did not appear to be a random act of violence, suggesting that Edwards may have been specifically targeted.
The investigation brought forth a witness who reported seeing four men arrive at the residence in a white sport utility vehicle. According to the witness, a single gunshot was heard shortly before the men were seen leaving the area in the same vehicle.
Following this lead, law enforcement officers located a white Chevrolet Tahoe that matched the description provided. Inside and around the vehicle, they discovered two firearms and a bag containing what was believed to be marijuana. The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Derek Hughes-Doby, Keith Moore Jr., Treundes Howell, and Cecil Howell. All four men acknowledged having prior drug convictions and told investigators they had been at a shooting range earlier that day.
Despite the discovery of the men and the firearms, no individuals have been directly charged in connection with the homicide of Bryan Ahmaad Edwards. The four men found in the SUV were subsequently charged with being unlawful users in possession of firearms. The Cedar Rapids Police Department's investigation into the death of Bryan Ahmaad Edwards remains ongoing, and they have encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
