Tina Arroyo, a 32-year-old White/Caucasian female from Philadelphia, was killed on the evening of July 24, 2023, in the Feltonville section of the city. Police said officers from the 25th District were sent to the 500 block of East Loudon Street for a report of gunshots, and when they arrived, they found Arroyo unresponsive in the driver's seat of a 2007 Honda Civic.
Medics pronounced her dead at the scene at 6:05 p.m.
The shooting unfolded just before 6 p.m., in broad daylight, near a Boys and Girls Club and across from a park where children and families were nearby. Investigators said Arroyo had pulled up in the area, and within moments another vehicle came up and gunfire erupted. Police described the attack as fast and deliberate, with at least 28 shots fired. Several bullets went through the windshield of Arroyo's car, and she was struck in the face, neck, chest, head and body.
In the hours after her death, the block still carried the marks of the violence: chalk outlines for shell casings, caution tape, and an empty field near the club. Police said someone in a white SUV pulled up and fired into Arroyo's vehicle. Investigators said they were not ready to publicly identify a motive, but they also said the shooting did not appear random. One police official described the speed and callousness of the attack as deeply troubling, especially because it happened near a crowded public area.
Arroyo was reported to be a mother of two, and loved ones described her as energetic and devoted to her children. A man identified in news coverage as her soon-to-be fiancé said her children “were her world.” Her family was left trying to process the sudden killing while detectives continued asking the public for information.
Three days later, on July 27, 2023, Philadelphia police announced an arrest. Alexander Grady, 26, was taken into custody in connection with Arroyo's death. Police identified him as being from the 100 block of MacDade Boulevard, while other reporting described him as from Glenolden. He was charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, violations of the Uniform Firearms Act including carrying without a license and carrying on the streets, possessing an instrument of crime, and recklessly endangering another person.
Court-related reporting at the time said Grady was denied bail and had a preliminary hearing scheduled for August 14, 2023. Available online reports did not show a public final outcome such as a trial verdict or conviction, and police had not publicly released a confirmed motive. The case was presented publicly as an ambush-style shooting in which Arroyo was targeted while sitting in her car, with investigators still working to explain why she was killed.
