On August 3, 2023, at approximately 11:21 p.m., Philadelphia Police officers responded to reports of gunfire on the 5800 block of Rising Sun Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 26-year-old Bassil Bertrand McClendon lying in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately transported him to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at 12:08 a.m. on August 4, 2023.
