On the morning of August 4, 2023, a violent encounter in Ontelaunee Township, near the intersection of Pottsville Pike and Snyder Road, ended the life of 44-year-old Librada Reyes De Peralta, a White Caucasian female from Reading, Pennsylvania. The incident, which unfolded around 6:15 a.m., stemmed from a domestic dispute between Reyes De Peralta and her husband.
Witnesses reported seeing a man in a red and black baseball hat, red shirt, and black shorts in a physical altercation with a
woman. Multiple calls were made to the Berks County Department of Emergency Services, with one caller stating they saw the man shoot the woman in the head. The assailant then fled the scene in a black sport utility vehicle. When officers from the Northern Berks Regional Police Department arrived, they found Reyes De Peralta unresponsive in the middle of the westbound lane of Snyder Road with life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Reading Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 7:04 a.m. by a critical care physician. The Berks County Coroner's Office later determined her cause of death to be multiple gunshot and stab wounds.
At the scene of the crime, investigators found a "work identification card" belonging to Ignacio Peralta Agramonte. Shortly after the incident, officers from the Northern Berks Regional and Reading Police Departments responded to a residence on Kutztown Road where they encountered Peralta Agramonte. Upon their arrival, he reportedly stated multiple times, "I did it, I'm sorry." He also informed the officers that there was a firearm in his vehicle, a black Toyota Venza, which was found parked nearby.
Further investigation revealed that Peralta Agramonte had contacted his brother, Jose Peralta Agramonte, at 6:52 a.m. and confessed to killing his wife. He then went to his brother's home on Kutztown Road, where he was ultimately taken into custody. While being spoken to by Berks County Detectives, Peralta Agramonte allegedly uttered, "I made a mistake; I took her life." He was subsequently transported to the Berks County Detectives Office.
