On October 12, 2023, Richard Mendez, a 50-year-old man from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was fatally shot during an attempted carjacking at Philadelphia International Airport. Mendez, an airport employee, was approached by two assailants in the parking garage. During the confrontation, he was shot multiple times and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
