On the evening of January 29, 2024, a marijuana sale arranged through Instagram led to the death of Terrence Murray, a 22-year-old White male from Philadelphia. Accompanied by another individual, Murray was driven in a black Acura TLX to the 400 block of Clifton Avenue in Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania, to meet the buyer. After they arrived at the address, which was a fire-gutted, abandoned building, two men approached the passenger side of the car.
One of the men asked Murray about the quality of the marijuana he was selling.
As Murray reached down for the bag of marijuana at his feet, one of the men who had approached the car appeared to reach for a gun. The driver of the Acura, sensing danger, immediately accelerated to flee the scene. A single gunshot was fired as they drove away, striking Murray once in the chest. He told the driver he had been shot. The driver sped to a Wawa convenience store on Calcon Hook Road, about two miles away, and called 911. First responders arrived and transported Murray to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about a half-hour later. His death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators delved into Murray’s digital communications and found the Instagram messages that had set up the supposed drug deal. They traced the account to Rhashaun J. Freeman of Folcroft. Cell phone records confirmed Freeman was at his home on the day of the killing, and surveillance footage from the area showed two men approaching Murray’s vehicle and one firing into it as it sped off. While providing aid to Murray at the Wawa, an officer found a loaded .40-caliber handgun in the front pocket of the sweatshirt he was wearing.
In April 2024, police arrested Rhashaun Freeman, then 24, and charged him with murder, robbery, conspiracy, and various gun violations. He was held without bail. Following a preliminary hearing in June 2024, a judge ordered him to stand trial on all charges.
In December 2025, Freeman went on trial in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas, facing charges including second- and third-degree murder, robbery, and conspiracy. During the trial, prosecutors argued that Freeman had lured Murray to the location for a robbery and that the second man, who has not been charged, was the shooter. Jury deliberations began on December 12, 2025. As of that month and year, the case was awaiting a verdict.
