In the early evening of June 3, 2024, a 29-year-old Hispanic male named Nicholas Delgado was on the 3000 block of Water Street in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. It was there, at approximately 7:45 p.m., that he was shot, sustaining a gunshot wound to his right leg. Despite his injury, Delgado managed to run a few blocks to his mother's house before he collapsed outside. Philadelphia Police officers responded to reports of a person with a gun and found Delgado unresponsive in the street. They rushed him to Temple University Hospital, but he was pronounced dead at 8:41 p.m.
Nicholas, who grew up in North Philly and Kensington, was remembered as a creative and energetic person. Known to carry a portable speaker, he would often start impromptu dance battles, his infectious energy drawing in those around him. A devoted father, he was also passionate about music and photography, frequently jotting down rhymes in a notebook he always carried. His family recalled him as a prankster at home but fiercely protective of his sisters. He was an avid reader of self-improvement books and a 'fact checker' who would diligently research things online to verify their truth.
Following an investigation into the shooting, authorities identified Ramon Rodriguez as the primary suspect in what they deemed a homicide. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and on December 4, 2024, officers spotted Rodriguez near the 3200 block of North Phillip Street. Attempting to evade capture, Rodriguez fled onto a rooftop but was apprehended by police without further incident. He has since been charged with murder and other related offenses in connection with the death of Nicholas Delgado. The case is currently pending trial.
