In the early hours of February 11, 2023, Winston-Salem police responded to reports of gunfire in the 2700 block of Eastwood Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered 25-year-old Jose Angel Mariche Cadena suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Cadena was pronounced dead at the scene by Emergency Medical Services.
Investigations revealed that Cadena had been involved in an argument with an acquaintance, 26-year-old Genri Sanchez Cisneros.
During the altercation, Cisneros allegedly shot Cadena. Later that morning, the Winston-Salem Police Department's SWAT Team apprehended Cisneros without incident. He was charged with murder and held at the Forsyth County Detention Center without bond, with his first court appearance scheduled for February 13, 2023.
This incident marked the 10th homicide in Winston-Salem for 2023, reflecting an increase from eight homicides at the same time in 2022. The investigation remained active, with authorities urging anyone with additional information to contact the Winston-Salem Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
