On July 19, 2023, at approximately 10:30 p.m., 29-year-old Ricky Renea Davis was fatally shot while attending a vigil in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The vigil was held near the 100 block of South Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, the same location where 39-year-old Aljerone Sims had been killed in a drive-by shooting earlier that week.
During the vigil, unknown suspects approached and fired upon the attendees, striking Davis. Friends at the scene transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Witnesses reported that the suspects fled the area via C.E. Gray Drive; however, their identities and mode of travel remain unknown.
In connection with the earlier homicide of Aljerone Sims, 20-year-old Davon Maurice Moore was arrested by the Greensboro Police Department. He was charged with murder and is currently held without bond at the Forsyth County Detention Center. As of now, no arrests have been made concerning the shooting of Ricky Davis, and authorities have not indicated whether the two incidents are related.

He had a deep affection for dogs and enjoyed music, especially the blues. A funeral service was held on August 5, 2023, at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel, where family and friends gathered to honor his memory.
